Universität Heidelberg - Heidelberg University Office, Kyoto (HUOK)
The Heidelberg University Office, Kyoto (HUOK), was opened in 2015 and represents Heidelberg University in Japan and East Asia. Founded in 1386, Heidelberg University today is renowned internationally for research that emphasizes dialogue across traditional subject boundaries and has been ranked repeatedly among the top universities in Germany and Europe.
The HUOK belongs to an international network of centers and branch offices of Heidelberg University in specific core regions, such as South America, South Asia, and the USA. As the university’s first liaison office in East Asia, the HUOK contributes to Heidelberg University’s global visibility and informs about Heidelberg University’s outstanding research achievements and excellent education opportunities through its events.
The HUOK regularly organizes and supports lectures, information sessions and other formats of events in cooperation with Heidelberg University’s partner universities and related institutions in the region. Its main objectives are maintaining the thriving relationships of Heidelberg University with these local universities and institutions and establishing new networks in research and teaching in Japan and beyond.
The HUOK also serves as the liaison office of the Japanese-German universities’ alliance HeKKSaGOn in Japan. HeKKSaGOn is a network of six excellent research-intensive universities in Japan and Germany that emphasize high-quality teaching in an internationally competitive research environment. The HUOK assists in introducing prospective research partners and coordinates joint activities within the network in close cooperation with the network’s partner universities in Japan.
