In the face of the most severe Economic Crisis since World War II, brought about by the SARS-Cov-2 pandemic, we forget that the ongoing Climate Crisis is an even greater threat to humanity. Global warming with its growing and lasting impact needs to be urgently addressed and reversed. The Paris Accord – now again with the US –, the EU’s Green Deal, Germany’s Exit from Coal and Japan’s Carbon Neutral initiative are all important steps but only the beginning of a long struggle of decarbonization.
Our future rests on the successful shift from fossil to renewable energies for which Hydrogen and its use are deemed to have great potential. Germany has set clear targets with the German National Hydrogen Strategy (June 2020). As the first German State North Rhine-Westphalia presented its Hydrogen Roadmap (November 2020). This aims for a strong Hydrogen Infrastructure (production, pipelines, supply chain) and an increase of Hydrogen Applications in energy, industry, mobility and beyond.
