DFG to Fund Eleven New Research Training Groups
The Deutsche Forschungsgemeinschaft (DFG, German Research Foundation) is establishing eleven new Research Training Groups (RTGs) to further support for academic qualifications gained through doctoral programmes. This was decided by the responsible Grants Committee in Bonn. From spring 2023 onwards, the new RTGs will receive a total of approximately €69 million over an initial period of five years. This includes a 22-percent programme allowance for indirect project costs. The new groups include two International Research Training Groups (IRTGs) with partners in Australia.

DFG to Fund 13 New Collaborative Research Centres
The Deutsche Forschungsgemeinschaft (DFG, German Research Foundation) is establishing 13 new Collaborative Research Centres (CRC) to further support top-level research in German universities. This was decided by the responsible Grants Committee in Bonn. The new CRCs will receive a total of approximately €166 million in funding for an initial four-year period as of 1 January 2023. This includes a 22 percent programme allowance for indirect project costs. Five of the new networks set up are CRC/Transregios, spread across multiple applicant universities.

Why is diversity important? How is it discussed and promoted at Japanese universities? To answer this and other related questions, DWIH Tokyo (German Centre for Research and Innovation Tokyo) and OAG (German East Asiatic Society) hosted the panel discussion „Diversity in Science – How to promote Inclusion & Empowerment in Japan” on October 19, 2022 and welcomed 132 participants on site and online.

Photo Exhibition “Fascination of Science” by German Artist Herlinde Koelbl for the first time in Japan (Oct 18-23)
Who are the people behind the greatest discoveries of our time? And how would they summarize the essence of their research – in a sketch, formula, or a few words on the palm of their hand? From October 18-23, the photo exhibition “Fascination of Science” by the renowned German photographer Herlinde Koelbl will be shown in Japan for the first time. It features portraits of 38 Nobel Prize Laureates and famous scientists from Japan and abroad.
