DFG and JSPS Renew Funding Opportunity for Japanese-German International Research Training Groups

[Deadline: continuously] As an expression of the long and fruitful scientific collaboration between their two countries, the Japan Society for the Promotion of Science (JSPS) and the Deutsche Forschungsgemeinschaft (DFG, German Research Foundation) are pleased to announce the renewal of an agreement for a joint funding scheme to support Japanese-German International Research Training Groups. Both organisations are dedicated to strengthening the joint researcher development systems for doctoral students in Japanese and German universities.

This week we welcome Assoc. Prof. Dr. Atsuko Kawakita, Director of the Center for German and European Studies at the University of Tokyo. An expert on contemporary German history, she shares her experiences in international research exchanges, emphasizing in particular the importance of long-term and enduring collaborations. US-American high-tech companies like Apple, Google, and IBM have established bases of operation here, and are working to expand them. They have been doing so because Bavaria is home to numerous manufacturing and IT companies, and has a rich “knowledge infrastructure” thanks to the presence of numerous universities and research institutions.

Tohoku University, in partnership with DWIH Tokyo, the Tohoku Forum for Creativity (TFC), and the University Research Administration (URA) Center, on August 31, 2021, co-hosted Falling Walls Lab Sendai 2021 (FWL Sendai 2021). We interviewed Saeka Uchino, who took first place in the event. Uchino, who is in the doctoral program at Tohoku University, gave a presentation titled, “Falling the Wall of Milk Science and Immunology.”
