The Helmholtz Visiting Researcher Grant offers doctoral students and Postdocs the opportunity to do a fully-funded short-term research stay (1 – 3 months) at one of the 18 Helmholtz centers.

The 59th Erwin von Bälz Prize awarded to Dr. Makoto Higuchi

The 59th Bälz Prize (Boehringer Ingelheim), named after Dr. Erwin von Bälz, a German doctor who contributed to the development of modern medical science in Japan, was awarded at the German Ambassador’s residence on 2 December. The theme of this year’s “Bälz Prize”, which is awarded for excellent medical papers, is “Alzheimer’s disease – diagnosis, therapy, prevention -”. The Bälz Prize is endowed with 8 million yen (1st prize) and 4 million yen (2nd prize).

Tackling global challenges through AI collaboration: The 3rd Japanese-German-French AI Symposium in Tokyo

On October 27-28, 2022 the 3rd Japanese-German-French AI-Symposium: ‘AI for Planetary Challenges in the Anthropocene’ was held at Miraikan (The National Museum of Emerging Science and Innovation) in Tokyo. The two-day event, hosted by the AI Japan R&D Network, DWIH Tokyo (German Centre for Research and Innovation Tokyo) and the Embassy of France in Japan, was the last of three Japanese-German-French AI-Symposia, first and second of which being held in 2018 and 2020.

DFG to Fund Eleven New Research Training Groups

The Deutsche Forschungsgemeinschaft (DFG, German Research Foundation) is establishing eleven new Research Training Groups (RTGs) to further support for academic qualifications gained through doctoral programmes. This was decided by the responsible Grants Committee in Bonn. From spring 2023 onwards, the new RTGs will receive a total of approximately €69 million over an initial period of five years. This includes a 22-percent programme allowance for indirect project costs. The new groups include two International Research Training Groups (IRTGs) with partners in Australia.

The German Accelerator offers new programs for German start-ups

[Deadline 2022/12/22, among others] The German Accelerator offers new and exciting programs for German start-ups to build and grow a scalable global business, with a focus on markets in the US and Asia (including Japan). The German Accelerator is operated by German Entrepreneurship GmbH and funded by the German Federal Ministry of Economics and Climate Policy (BMWK). Currently, the German Accelerator offers three different programs to support early-stage start-ups in their quest for the global market.
