Prof. Dr. Andreas Dengel receives the "Order of the Rising Sun"

Prof. Dr. Prof. h.c. Andreas Dengel, German Research Center for Artificial Intelligence (DFKI), receives the “Order of the Rising Sun, Gold Rays with Neck Ribbon” for his long-standing contributions to promoting academic exchanges and mutual understanding between Japan and Germany.
Prof. Dengel is Managing Director of DFKI Kaiserslautern and Head of the research area Smart Data & Knowledge Services. At the same time, he is Professor of Computer Science at the University of Kaiserslautern and Chairman of the “Flexible Factory Partner Alliance”. Prof. Dengel has been cooperating intensively with Japan for over 10 years, e.g. with the National Institute of Information and Communications Technology (NICT), Wireless Networks Research Center, Yokosuka. He was also one of the keynote speakers at the “1st Japanese-German-French DWIH symposium on Artificial Intelligence”
Recently, his initiative led to the establishment of the first overseas branch of the DFKI in Osaka.
